Ukraine has fired cruise missiles on a shipyard lying on the east coast of the Russia-annexed Crimean peninsula, impairing a vessel and causing the debris to fall on a dock, Russia mentioned on Sunday.

Since its launching of the counteroffensive against Moscow forces in the summer, Kyiv has been ramping up the attacks on this peninsula to suppress the Russian Black Sea naval fleet.

On 4 November, Ukraine’s army reportedly launched 15 cruise missiles at the B.E. Butoma shipyard in Kerch, per the Russian defence ministry, per state media report.

The air defence systems shot down about 13 of the cruise missiles, per the ministry report, adding that as a result of getting hit by an enemy’s cruise missile, a vessel located at the plant was impaired.

It didn’t state how badly the vessel was impaired or name which vessel was attacked.

The debris from downed missiles fell on a close by dock, but no one got hurt, Sergei Aksyonov, Crimea’s Russian-installed governor, informed, without sharing further details.

The close by Crimean bridge to Russia’s mainland which has consistently been targeted by Ukraine’s forces earlier, was shut down briefly on Saturday for unknown reasons.

On Saturday, Ukraine had declared the attack and confirmed the details on Sunday.

On 4 November, the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted strikes on the port and maritime infrastructure of the Zaliv shipyard in the temporarily occupied Kerch, it mentioned.

Mykola Oleschuk, Ukraine’s Air Force commander said that a Kalibr cruise missile carrier was parked at the shipyard, and thanked the pilots for what he referred to as the “successful” strikes.

Russian and Ukrainian attacks around and in the Black Sea have strengthened since the withdrawal of Moscow from the Black Sea grain agreement, which aimed to establish a safe passage for civilian vessels.

In September 2023, Ukraine started a missile attack that had struck Moscow’s Black Sea fleet headquarters in Sevastopol.
