Iran Guards Confiscate Over 50,000 L Of Smuggled Fuel From Seized Ship, 4 Crew Members Arrested

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have reportedly seized a vessel loaded with smuggled fuel in the Gulf and arrested four crew members, per local media reports on Saturday.

Over 50,000 litres of smuggled fuel were found on the vessel, Fars news agency quoted the coastal Hormozgan province’s Chief Justice, Mojtaba Ghahramani.

He said the Revolutionary Guards Corps navy “confiscated” the vessel and “arrested four” in the operation.

Neither the origin of the vessel nor the operation’s date was disclosed.

Ghahramani said the fuel would be redirected to the nation’s legal distribution network.

The US military, also, in recent weeks, has beefed up its presence in the Gulf after it accused Iran of attempting to seize and harass vessels in the key waterway.

On 6 July, the US Navy said that the Guards had seized a commercial vessel in the waters of the Gulf, a day after it accused Iran’s forces of two attempts off the Oman Coast.

Iran later said the vessel detained in the Gulf was loaded with over one million litres of smuggled fuel.
