On Sunday, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) claimed to have successfully rescued 12 members of the crew from a sinking supply ship in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Gujarat.
The operation was successfully carried out on Saturday following a distress message received by the ICG Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) based in Mumbai at around 11 am, a Defense release mentioned.
The Motorized Supply Vessel (MSV) was reported to be flooded heavily and sinking. As it sank eventually, 12 crew members from India were taken up on the Motor Tanker (MT) Searanger.
The call was for uncontrolled flooding on Indian MSV, “Nigahen Karam”, on the passage leading to Djibouti.
On getting the call, the MRCC reportedly alerted vessels operating in the spot’s vicinity and coordinated with the Maritime Rescue sub-centre (MRSC), Porbandar, to reportedly divert a motor tanker dubbed Searanger to offer prompt assistance to the vessel.
Besides, the ICG vessel Sarthak operating in the area was functional and diverted, and the ICG fast interceptor class of vessel C-152 was sailed from Gujarat’s Vadinar.
