T: Yes, and make it double, please. For the bottom tier use the battens stacked over there. Lay them athwart-ship about 12 inches apart to give drainage. The cocoa butter should be absolutely free from water and sweat. And for the top tier,               

please use the boards stacked in the wing there.

T: The vessel has just completed discharge of all the cargo, but there is some severely damaged cargo still remaining in the hold. Here are the damaged cargo list and short landed memo for you to check and sign.

F: All ships work in a light rain like this at this season of the year. You see, we have only one hour before meal time. So if we stop now, we’re going to stay idle for two hours and a half. The stevedores won’t get back to work even if the rain clears up in less than half an hour.

P: Glad to meet you, chief officer. While you wait for your berth, I should like to ask you something concerning your ship’s safety precautions. My question is, what steps have you taken against fire on board the tanker?

C: We have fire-fighting equipment. For example, a number of fire extinguishers and fire hoses are available in such place as the living accommodation, catwalk, pump-room, engine-room, navigating bridge, galley and mess-room.
