前 言
《船舶英语实用手册》在处党、政的关心、指导下，在相关编写人员的共同努力下，终于将和大家见面了。这本小册子是在公司为应对“三江管道”的冲击，实施大油运发展战略、全面推进“二次创业”的背景下编写的，是船处为适应公司创业发展形势的要求，推进“学习年”活动的深入开展，并根据广大青年职工的学习需求而编写的英语自学教材。本书共分六个部份。第一部份：学习方法与技巧，主要介绍学习英语的一些经验及技巧；第二部份：海员专业英语基础知识，主要包括与船员日常工作、生活有关的用语、标识、口令等内容；第三部份：海员社交英语。主要包括船员涉外交际、接待的各类专题的情景对话；第四部份：日常口语对话，共精选900句日常对话用语，内容涉及到日常生活的方方面面；第五部份：英语相关基础知识。重点介绍了日常生活中一些特色、专题英语的用法，突出了英语学习中的趣味性；第六部份：英文阅读作品。其内容主要为印度诗人泰戈尔的散文诗集《飞鸟集》英文译作的一部份。这六个部份既相互独立，又互相补充，对提高学习者的口语表达能力及英文认知水平有着较大的裨益。
为了提高本书的适用性、针对性，提高英语学习的整体效果，我们编写人员对编写本书做了细致的准备，无论对书名确定、材料筛选还是对篇章的结构组成等都进行了精心的策划，在确保本书形式上的新颖性，内容上的准确性、丰富性、时代性以及结构上的完整性方面做出了一定的努力，特别是处航监科薛小伟等同志，先后利用业余时间数度对本书稿进行校对，为本书编著付出了很大的努力，在此一并表示感谢！当然，由于编者水平有限，书中缺点在所难免，敬请专家和读者批评指正。

第一部分 学习方法与技巧
一、如何避免英语学习中的10个误区
语法当先：说话、写作之前先想语法，惟恐语法有错，这是学校死板的英语教学给学生留下的最严重的后遗症之一。
心理恐惧：听不懂更不敢说话，读不快也不敢写，惟恐语法有错误导致心理上的畏惧，认为英语是高深莫测的学问，认为英语老师的思维方式才是唯一正确的思路，培养了许多考试高分而真正运用英语低能的学生。
学无致用：学习英语不是为了运用和表达，而是为了考试和过关，于是动机走偏，结果是学得越多，丢得越多；没有把英语变成自己表达自己、与人交流的真正工具，事倍功半，浪费自己的时间和金钱。
落后陈旧：学了不少古董英语。任何语言都是“活”的语言，在不断丰富，不断进步，从这个意义上说，学习陈旧的语言毫无新鲜感不说，基本无处可用。
急用乱医：不少人在急用英语的情形下，只好囫囵吞枣，有病乱投医，不管学校学习方法是否适合自己，先上再说，选择缺乏理性分析与思考，效果也就可见能有多好？
语音不规范：语音非常“中国”是不少英语学习者的特点，原因是听的国际化的发音太少，中国的英语老师中发音语感好的实在有限，所以与其等待他们提高，不如跨越他们（在语音方面）多向母语为英语的人士学习。
用法不入流：不鲜活、不入时、不风趣幽默的语言就不是我们要学的语言，不入流、不分场合的语言学了也无用武之处！
盲目崇拜教学单位：这些教学单位也许有很长历史，也有经验丰富的授课老师，但是也有他们的局限性，如观念陈旧、方法陈旧。
幻想一蹴而就：很多人幻想速成英语高手，也许是学得太久，收效太不成正比，所以有这样幻想倾向的人就越多，幻想的程度就越深，幻想的花样也越层出不穷。
期望高学费提高学习效果：外因通过内因发生作用，学习语言也不例外。现实中不少人不想通过艰辛的付出就想学好语言，结果希望越大，失望越大。
现代英语提倡“教人正确的学习方法”比“教学内容”更重要。“速成”往往“不成”，也不赞成学习语言要“面壁十年”、“苦学傻练”，而提出要找到最适合自己针对以往不足的训练。
二、如何开展英语阅读学习
许多学习英语的同志大多曾遇到过这种情况，即明明文章能看懂，但题却做得不够正确，经历了几次，不但对自己的阅读能力产生了怀疑，而且对考试中的阅读试题也产生了一种恐惧感。因此，我们学习英语阅读过程中需注意以下五个问题。
1.区别对待不同性质的阅读任务
精读，一定要落实到词、句篇章结构，对重要内容还要加以朗读、诵读，加强记忆。浏览，要形成习惯，养成每天翻翻英文报纸、杂志的习惯。寻读，要始终记住自己寻找原定的目标，不要东翻翻西翻翻，看到有趣的材料就要忘记了自己原定的目标，在查阅辞典时，很多学习者都容易犯这样的错误。研读，要把重心放在信息内容上，不要过分关注语言现象。
2.提高阅读速度和提高阅读理解的准确性一样重要
培养速读能力的关键是选好材料，大量阅读。速读训练的阅读材料，生词率不超过10%，要在大量阅读中培养理解的直接感悟能力，不能把阅读理解建立在分析和翻译的基础上，这样永远培养不出速读能力。生词率太高的阅读材料，需要经常查词典，即破坏阅读兴趣又降低阅读速度。值得注意的是，阅读自己比较感兴趣的材料和图文结合的图书，能够让您从阅读中找到乐趣，增长学习的激情，获得广泛的知识。
3.培养阅读习惯
坚持每周读英文报纸、杂志、每月读一本英语简易读物，每天晚上读几页英语“闲书”才睡觉。坚持一段时间后，会形成习惯，不读反倒不习惯了。
4.不要过分注意生词和语法
许多学生都想通过泛读来扩大英语词汇量，这本来是可行的，但许多人把扩大词汇量变成了阅读的目的，一打开书就拿彩色笔划生词，然后查词典、背定义，搞得阅读完全失去了阅览室读的本性，还有的学生明明读懂了，却死抠语法，非要把活生生的句子肢解成一堆堆语法术语，结果严重影响了阅读技能的发展和提高。
5.不能把各种考试中的阅读理解和阅读能力划等号
阅读能力很强的人也未必一定能在各种考试的阅读理解部分得高分，因为阅读理解作为一种英语测试手段，它必须满足作为测试手段的一些要求，如信度要求。为了提***扰而把答案搞得似是而非，理解考题比理解文章还难，做阅读理解变成了思辨游戏，而且裁判只有一个，他永远是对的。因此，我们常常发现一些学生原文理解得很透彻，做阅读理解却还是丢分。这对学生阅读的信心产生很大的打击。因此，我们不主张通过做大量的阅读理解来培养学生的阅读能力。
三、如何开展英语听力学习
听力是英语学习中非常重要的一个技能，在日常的生活以及学习中都是衡量你英语学习的重要标准，要练好英语听力，必须注意以下几个问题。
首先，听力练习的选材
对于听力中低级同学来说，目前比较好的练习听力的选材是***(VOA--voice of American)，这在国内已经得到了共识。VOA设有专门的听力练习的Special English，这是个2/3正常语速的栏目，里面包含了15000常用词汇，并且是正规美语发音，现在国内的英语听力考试都是使用的美语朗读，这对我们来说非常的有利。
如果你已经有了初级的听力，那么现在李扬的疯狂英语(Crazy English)也是一个快速提高英语听力的好方法，当然，这里我指的不是他提供的磁带，而是他的那种学习方法。那种疯狂的学习方法。当然，磁带也很有用，里面对于实用类型的英语很多！
如果你已经是中级以上听力了，那么最好的材料就是中央国际频道的英文节目了，由于是电视节目，并且时事性比较强，对我们的英语学习更是有利，央视英语栏目实用的是正常语速，对我们日后与老外交流能听懂对方的说话是很有利的。
其次，要有好的学习方法
在我的经验中，将写和听结合起来是最好的。我一般选择VOA作为听写练习的材料，主要是因为手写不了那么的快。 听与写结合的好处主要体现在：一是能够集中思想；二是能将词汇更加牢固的记住；三是能加快手写速度，对现在听力中经常出现的填空题是很好的练习。
再次，要贵在坚持
开展英语听力训练最关键的地方就是坚持！其实现在国内电视台英文栏目开的很多，这样，我们每天都有机会通过图文的方式练习听力！加上***的干扰越来越少，收听VOA也是非常方便的事儿了！其实听力是一个需要不断积累的过程，需要你每天坚持的练习。通过我说的方法，你只要坚持一个月，我敢打赌，你会发现你的英语水平肯定会有很大的提高！
四、如何开展英语口语学习
要开展英语口语学习，最好要把学习的目标收缩，把追求大而广的英语知识转化为追求一种定量性的技巧，我认为有6种技巧，是美国人和美国人之间交流的关键性东西，如果我们能掌握这6种技巧，就可以更好地理解美国人的思维，从而学好口语。
第一，如何用英文简单界定一个东西的技巧。美国人和美国人交谈80％是想告诉对方这个事物是什么。我们的课本尽管词汇难度不断加深，但思维逻辑结构却只停留在一个水平上。中国人常说Where is the book（这本书在哪儿）？很少有人说What is a book（书是什么）？而美国的小学生就开始问：What is the book？这种Where is the book只是思维的描述阶段。但是我想连大学生也很难回答What is a book？因为中国传统英语教学模式没有教会学生表达思想的技巧。
第二，如果已经学会界定，但理解还有偏差，那就要训练How to explain things in different ways（用不同的方式解释同一事物）。一种表达式对方不懂，美国人会寻找另一种表达式最终让对方明白。因为事物就一个，但表达它的语言符号可能会很多。这就要多做替换练习。传统的教学方法也做替换练习，但这种替换不是真替换，只是语言层面的替换，而不是思维层面的替换。比如，I love you（我爱你）。按我们教学的替换方法就把you换成her，my mother等，这种替换和小学生练描红没有什么区别。这种替换没有对智力构成挑战，没有启动思维。这种替换句子的基本结构没变，我听不懂I love you，肯定也听不懂I love her。如果替换为I want to kiss you，I want to hug you，I will show my heart to you等，或者给对方讲电影《泰坦尼克》，告诉对方那就是爱，这样一来对方可能就明白了。这才叫真正的替换。也就是说用一种不同的方式表达同一个意思，或者一个表达式对方听不清楚，举一个简单易懂的例子来表达，直到对方明白。
第三，我们必须学会美国人怎样描述东西。从描述上来讲，由于中美的文化不同会产生很大的差异。我们描述东西无外乎把它放在时间和空间两个坐标上去描述。美国人对空间的描述总是由内及外，由里及表。而中国人正好相反。从时间上来说，中国人是按自然的时间顺序来描述。我们描述一个东西突然停住时，往往最后说的那个地方是最重要的。美国人在时间的描述上先把最重要的东西说出来，然后再说陪衬的东西。只有发生悲剧性的事件，美国人才在前面加上铺垫。这就是中国人和美国人在时间描述上的巨大差别。
第四，要学会使用重要的美国习语。不容易学、易造成理解困惑的东西就是“习语”。比如北京人说盖了帽儿了，外国人很难理解，这就是习语。所以和美国人交流时，能适当地运用美国习语，他马上就会觉得很亲切，也很爱和你交流。那么什么是习语？就是每个单词你都认识，但把它们组合在一起，你就不知道是什么意思了。
第五，学会两种语言的传译能力。这是衡量口语水平的一个最重要标准。因为英语不是我们的母语，我们天生就有自己的母语。很多人都认为学好外语必须丢掉自己的母语，这是不对的。
第六，要有猜测能力。为什么美国人和美国人、中国人和中国人之间交流很少产生歧义？就是因为他们之间能“猜测”。我们的教学不提倡“猜测”。但我觉得猜测对学好美国口语很重要。在交流中，有一个词你没有听懂，你不可能马上去查字典，这时候就需要猜测来架起一座桥梁来弥补这个缺口，否则交流就会中断。
中国人学习口语讲究背诵，背句型、背语调，结果就是很多人讲口语的时候讲着讲着眼就开始向上翻，实际上是在记忆中寻找曾经背过的东西。如果他要是能猜测的话，我想也就不会出现这种现象。
第二部份：海员专业英语基础知识
一、甲板部工作用语
1. Hoist/lower the “H” flag, please! 请升起/降下“H”旗！
2.Hoist the Chinese national flag on the fore mast, please! 请在前桅升起中国旗

10. Bring the pilot's bag to the bridge.把领航员的包拿到驾驶室
11. Lift up the pilot's bag from the pilot boat. 把领航员的包从领航艇上吊上来。
12.Lower the pilot ladder on the port/starboard side. 把领航梯放在左/右舷。
13.The pilot ladder is too high. 领航梯太高了。
14.The pilot ladder is about two meters above the water. 领航梯约在水面上两米。
15.Lower the pilot ladder a little more. 把领航梯再往下放一点。
16.Lower/pick up the pilot ladder on starboard /port side. 放下/收上右/左舷的领航梯。
17.Adjust the light toward the pilot ladder. 把灯照在领航梯部位。
18.Have the heaving line ready by the pilot ladder. 在领航梯处备好撇缆。
19.Please check the navigation lights, see if they are in good order. 检查一下航行灯是否正常。
20.Heave the head/stern line. 绞头缆/尾缆。
21.Heave the breast line and the spring tightly. 绞紧横缆和倒缆。
22.Stop heaving the head/stern line and the spring. 停绞头/尾缆和倒缆。
23.Hold the head/stern line and the spring. 拉头/尾缆和倒缆。
24.Make fast the head/stern line and the spring. 挽牢头/尾缆和倒缆。
25.Lower one messenger rope to the mooring boat from portside. 自左舷松下一根引缆给带缆船。
26.Lower one slip wire to the mooring boat from starboard side. 自右舷松下一根回头缆给带缆船。
27.Walk out the port anchor chain on the water su***ce. 松出左锚锚链到水面。
28.Unshackle the port anchor from the chain before three o'clock afternoon. 下午3点以前把左锚从锚链上卸下来。
29.Heave the port/starboard head/stern line. 绞直左/右舷头尾/缆。
30.Give a good rope to the tug boat from starboard/port side. 从右/左舷卸下一个质量好的缆绳给拖船。
31.You must make the tug line fast on the bitts. 你必须要把拖缆牢固地挽在缆桩上。

秋天的黄叶，它们没有什么可唱，只叹息一声，飞落在那里。
Stray birds of summer come to my window to sing and fly away.
And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutter and fall
there with a sign.
2.世界上的一队小小的漂泊者呀，请留下你们的足印在我的文字里。
O Troupe of little vagrants of the world, leave your footprints in my words.
3.世界对着它的爱人，把它浩翰的***揭下了。
它变小了，小如一首歌，小如一回永恒的接吻。
The world puts off its mask of vastness to its lover.
It becomes small as one song, as one kiss of the eternal.
4.是大地的泪点，使她的微笑保持着青春不谢。
It is the tears of the earth that keep here smiles in bloom.
5.无垠的沙漠热烈追求一叶绿草的爱，她摇摇头笑着飞开了。
The mighty desert is burning for the love of a bladeof grass who
shakes her head and laughs and flies away.
6.如果你因失去了太阳而流泪，那么你也将失去群星了。
If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars.
7.跳舞着的流水呀，在你途中的泥沙，要求你的歌声，你的流动呢。你肯挟

The sands in your way beg for your song and your movement, dancing water. Will you carry the burden of their lameness?
