REGULATION FOR CALCULATION UKC & Squat
1 General regulation
When institute voyage plan, the navigator must calculate UKC when charted depth that less than 2 times vessel draft at shallow water area of the voyage from berth to berth and record in voyage plan. UKC must be included in master & pilot exchange card when pilot on board.
2 UKC regulations
2.1 Which is not less than 10 percent of vessel’s draft when navigate in shallow water、narrow channel、closed water and harbor water;
2.2 UKC is not less than 20 percent of vessel’s draft when navigate on open sea;
2.3 Vessels which draft above
2.4 During harbor operation, at all situations, UKC not less than 1.2 meters for vessels which draft above
2.5 Vessel should be complied with UKC regulations for harbor or local authority;
2.6 When determined UKC, which should be considerate the follow situation or factor:
·Vessel maximum draft;
·Affected by the stability and list/trim at this draft situation;
·Affected by squat at numerous speeds at this draft situation;
·Affected by tide and current;
·Affected by height of tide when in abnormally weather;
·Affected by sea and swell;
·Affected by depths when berth alongside、anchorage or navigate;
2.7 Stream affected between vessel in shallow water and sea bed which resulted in vessel squat and variety bass on vessel’s block coefficient; Squat pro rata with vessel speed square,that timely reduced half speed, the squat affected will be reduced to quarter of previous;
2.8 The master of vessel should be considered the squat affected, due to unforeseen reasons so that do not ensure the recommended UKC of 10 percent vessel’s draft. Master may consider the follows chooses:
A Reduced speed to minimum safety speed so that reduced the squat affected;
C Reasonable adjustment vessel’s draft, to the best of reduced the vessel’s trim.
2.9 Squat information which must be for helpful passage plan,which not regard as the method to reduce the UKC.
2.10 Master founded the berth which has no sufficient depth for vessel safely alongside in any harbor and berth, who must be reported to ship’s owner、charterer and company, submitted the sea protest if necessary. master doubted with the berth be alongside whether has sufficient depth for keeping vessel safety berthed, and when reached, master must arrangement the crewmember to measure the depth around of vessel, the measured depth must be send to ship’s owner、charterer and company immediately.

2.12 Vessel must be calculated the voyage UKC before prepared the voyage passage plan.
