Mitsui OSK Lines has announced a tie-up with Cosco
Japanese major says it aims to “utilise Cosco Dalian’s track record and
know-how in training tanker officers” with an initial annual target of
40 Chinese cadets per year. A spokesman for MOL, which aims to expand
its total operated fleet to 900 ships by 2010, said “we expect to need
an additional 6,000 seafarers by that time in order to meet crewing
requirements”. Cosco Dalian specialises in transport of liquid bulk
cargo. Training is to be carried out both in the classroom at
on board MOL-operated ships.
